The Challenge
Have you ever felt like you’re facing a Snorlax blocking your path, but instead of a giant, sleepy Pokémon, it’s a colossal, disorganised spreadsheet? That’s exactly the situation the creators of Card Codex were in.
They had a dream: to create the ultimate resource for Pokémon card collectors. They had the data — a vast collection of over 20,000 cards, from the original Base Set to the latest Scarlet & Violet expansion. What they didn’t have was a way to present it to the world. Their data was like a box of unsorted cards, a jumbled mess that was about as useful as a Magikarp using Splash.
The Core Problems We Needed to Solve:
- A Disorganised Pokédex: The data was all there, but it was scattered and difficult to navigate. Users needed a way to search, filter, and find the exact card they were looking for, faster than a Rapidash.
- The Pricing Puzzle: The Pokémon card market is as unpredictable as a moody Gyarados. Card Codex needed a way to display up-to-the-minute pricing data for both raw and graded cards, but manually updating thousands of listings was impossible.
- A Lacklustre User Experience: The initial, bare-bones site was about as engaging as a Metapod. It lacked the visual appeal and intuitive design needed to capture the hearts and minds of the passionate Pokémon TCG community. They needed a user interface that felt as exciting as finding a shiny Pokémon in the wild.

The Solution
When Card Codex approached us, we knew we had to embark on a quest worthy of a Pokémon Master. We didn’t just want to build a website; we wanted to create a legendary platform that would become an indispensable tool for collectors everywhere.
Our strategy was a multi-pronged approach, combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of what makes the Pokémon community tick.
Our Battle Plan:
- Forging the Ultimate Search Engine: We started by building a custom, lightning-fast search engine from the ground up. Think of it as our own personal Mewtwo, capable of psychic-level searches. Users can now filter by Pokémon name, card type, set, rarity, and even the artist. Finding that one specific Eevee evolution you’re missing? It’s now easier than ever.
- Taming the Market with a Pricing API: To solve the pricing challenge, we developed and integrated a sophisticated API that automatically pulls and aggregates pricing data from multiple trusted sources across the web. This system constantly updates the prices for both raw and PSA/CGC/BGS graded cards, ensuring Card Codex users always have the most accurate and reliable information at their fingertips.
- Designing an Engaging User Interface: We gave the entire website a complete makeover. The new design is clean, modern, and packed with the nostalgic charm that Pokémon fans love. We created a visually rich experience with high-quality card images, intuitive navigation, and a user-friendly “My Collection” feature that allows collectors to track their personal portfolios. It’s a digital binder you’ll actually want to show off!
Explore the full platform and start searching for Pokémon cards today!

Card Codex went from feeling like a messy binder of loose cards to the ultimate collector’s tool — thanks to this build, I can finally track my collection, check prices instantly, and actually enjoy the process. It’s everything I wanted as a Pokémon fan!
